Quick first post

Hello dear friends, and greetings to you if you've randomly stumbled across this blog. I'm not quite sure where I will go with this, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

Just to give you some background, I am currently a 29 year old professional working for a large healthcare IT company. It was through this job that I realized what my true calling in life is - and that is to be a medical doctor. I'll answer the question of "why" in a later post, but suffice it to say it is the only thing I will be happy doing with the rest of my life. I will be returning to school in September 2007 in order to start turning this dream into reality.

I'm going to try to keep this up to date from the beginning of the process until the end (though it may get a little more difficult once I actually hit med school!). I'll update you as I finish my pre-medical requirements, take the MCAT's, apply to medical schools, and beyond. I'm doing this for a few reasons...

1. I need a place to deposit my thoughts at the end of a long day. A sound board for times when I need to vent or celebrate and no one is around in my real life.
2. I want other people that are thinking about going to medical school later in life to see they are not alone. And if they can learn from my successes and failures, then so much the better.
3. I am leaving a lot of good friends behind at my current job and I have a lot of friends scattered around the US and the rest of the world. This seems like a good way to keep them abreast of how I'm doing.
4. Just because I want to. I enjoy writing, and hopefully some people out there will enjoy reading.

So this is just a quick first post to share with the world. I'll be adding a few more in the future to talk about my motivations, the thought process I went through before making the decision, and what steps I've taken so far to make this a reality.
